OUR STORY

Turns out spending years in corporate environments where creativity is an afterthought and big egos run the show just wasn’t our jam. Good ideas moved slowly, individuality was discouraged and somewhere along the way the joy got squeezed out of it all.

So when the opportunity came to do something different, we did.

Music is alive, ever evolving and endlessly creative. We think big, take risks, back bold ideas and have fun doing it. Because there's a song for every mood, a story behind every record and an energy in a room full of people hearing something they love that you can’t always explain.

Late Set Studio is where we make this happen.

We work best with artists who care about the right things. The music, the community, the craft. The audience growth, the campaigns and the momentum? Leave that up to us.

AILSA BROOKMAN

Co-Founder & Director of Creative Partnerships and Experience

One of my earliest memories is sitting cross-legged on the floor of my family’s house in the UK with my twin sister, watching one of my dad’s favourite bands, Feeder, play their 2002 Comfort in Sound DVD on the TV. I was completely obsessed. Not just with the crowd of thousands jumping around, singing every word with no phones in sight, but with the feeling of sharing music my dad loved with him in that moment. Years later, watching Oasis live in Sydney as a family with tears in our eyes because those were the songs we grew up singing in the kitchen, I had that exact same feeling again. Honestly, that’s what music is all about to me. The hairs on your arms standing up, shutting your eyes and just feeling it move through you.

Those moments must have stuck, because I went on to study a Bachelor of Communications and Public Relations with the hope that one day I’d work on large-scale music festivals. The universe had other plans when COVID hit and festivals were cancelled, which led me into the events team at the Conservatorium of Music before moving through marketing, communications, PR and events roles. Along the way, I built a strong foundation in project coordination, event planning, stakeholder engagement, client relationships, partnerships and business development. I’ve always loved the people side of the work most. Communicating with people has always come naturally to me, and if you see me out and about, you’ll probably find me chatting away to someone I met five minutes ago. That’s just who I am. I believe everyone has a story worth hearing, and that’s exactly how I approach artists and their music. It’s your story, and I want to hear it.

When I’m not working, you’ll usually catch me crocheting clothes while playing The Beaches on vinyl, going to gigs, or sitting in a camp chair at Crescent Head surrounded by my best mates!

SAMMY ASVESTAS

Co-Founder & Director of CREATIVE AND STRATEGY

I grew up hanging out in the garage with dad's record collection and never really left. I started playing guitar at 11, built my own Fender Stratocaster at 14, but figured out pretty early that my real strength was on the creative and strategy side of music rather than the stage.

Music consumed my life as a teenager. I was working at Musos Corner, the local music store, spending most of my science classes at the back of the room sneakily watching music documentaries on my laptop and eventually leaving school to do a Diploma of Music Business because music was all I wanted to do. That led me into music PR, working across artist liaison, media planning and stakeholder management with festivals including Groovin the Moo and This That, and artists like John Butler Trio, Midnight Oil, Kate Miller-Heidke and Karnivool. From there I built a career delivering large scale events, audience engagement strategies and creative campaigns across Australia and internationally in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. I also hold a Bachelor of Business in Contemporary Marketing.

I'm the person who loves to brainstorm, gets excited about a wild idea and then immediately starts working out how to pull it off. Creative direction and strategy is where I live.

My taste runs from old school rock and blues through to anything you can groove to and jam out. Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Johnson, Foo Fighters, Matt Corby, Ocean Alley, South Summit. If it's got soul, I'm in.

I’ve recently taken up surfing and am completely obsessed, despite the ocean having other ideas most days. I'm a summer person at heart and have a pipe dream of spending a year on a tropical island where shoes are entirely optional.

If you've read this far, we're probably already on the same page.
